Because Nice Matters!

As I approached a milestone birthday I considered what I would like to do with the rest of my “working years”.  What immediately came to mind was that I want to be happy, I want to work with a smile on my face and love in my heart.

What does this for me?  Cooking!

One of my greatest cooking influences was Avis Dudley, owner of Ma Dudley’s in Castle Hill, Maine.  I worked with her in her kitchen and even though I was only 18 she could run circles around me. She was 81 when I started working with her!

I’m not sure if I’ll work until I’m 81, but her example proved that it’s possible!

My very first memory of cooking was when I was 6 years old. I was making pancakes for my family.  I loved the magic of putting flour, sugar, milk, eggs together making a batter, and the miraculous transformation of that batter into pancakes.

My enchantment with culinary alchemy continues.

That was the beginning of a lifetime of cooking fascination.  I’ve baked, broiled, roasted, boiled, stewed, grilled, steamed, fried, sautéed, scrambled and poached food…creating culinary magic for fine dining establishments, health food restaurants, casual eateries, wilderness adventures and more.

I am happiest when working with food.

Hence, the establishment of Good Witch Kitchen!

Jobs that I’ve also felt passionate about have involved developing nonprofit community building programs.  Community means more than just a place or particular group for me, it's a spirit.  It's an interdependent network centered on relationships, connections, cooperation, a sense of belonging and well-being.  Community includes not only people, but also our animal friends and the environment.  Community is a mutually dependent system consisting of many parts and the health of a community is dependent upon the health and well-being of all of its parts.

I love the idea of community building, of making where I live the best place for me to park my broom and for the others I live with to thrive. Community building is comprised of the action we all take to strengthen and support the interdependent relationships, connections, well-being and sense of belonging for all community members.

As I developed my idea of my “last job”, I was drawn to incorporate my passion for cooking with my passion for community building. I can do what I love and make a difference! For every order placed with Good Witch Kitchen I will donate 10% of proceeds to charitable community building programs. When placing an order each customer can choose from the following list of programs that will receive my donation:

Humane Society of Waterville Area

Hospice Volunteers of the Waterville Area

Mid-Maine Homeless Shelter

Universalist Unitarian Church ~ Evening Sandwich Program

Sustain Mid-Maine Coalition

My idea of building community doesn’t end there.  I’d like to invite individuals and businesses who support these programs to become matching sponsors who through their giving increase the donation to these valuable programs.

When you order from Good Witch Kitchen you get to enjoy great food made locally, to order, and with the freshest, unprocessed, no preservatives, premium ingredients ~
